Why story still matters in mobile RPGs
A lot of mobile RPGs treat story as a thin coat of paint over the grind. We think that's a mistake, and the games that stick with us are almost always the ones that bothered to make us care.
Take Emberfall Chronicle. The combat is solid, but it's the quiet moments between fights that kept us going. When a game gives its characters a reason to exist beyond stat blocks, every battle suddenly has weight.
The trick on mobile is keeping it tight. Nobody wants a fifteen-minute cutscene on a phone. The best writing here is snappy, delivered in short bursts you can read at a bus stop.
If you're building a party or picking your next download, don't skip the story tag. Sometimes it's the difference between a game you finish and one you forget.
